INHERIT Resilience Network

Investigating heritage-led resilience to conflict, scarcity and climate change

WHindanger

About the project

Launched by Wiki World Heritage in 2021, with support from the Wikimedia Foundation, WHindanger project undertakes the participatory documentation of world heritage sites inscribed by UNESCO on the danger list, through the use of collaborative open platforms, namely Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata.

The created content comprehends encyclopaedic articles, media, databases and visualization, and is created through organizing a series of workshops, contests and content-focused trainings in the target countries, in collaboration with local heritage NGOs.

Through both its outcomes and approach, WHindanger aims to raise awareness about these sites, reconnect locals to their threatened heritage, and generate an accessible and sustainable repository to support preservation and reconstruction projects.
